+ Got off 15 year old depression

Ryan’s case is proof of the spiritual saying “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” (Name changed)

“It all started with a handout CS was printing in the store I worked in. At first, I didn’t give it much thought. However, after yet another bout with insomnia, I decided to give the ‘Counting mode’ and ‘Segment mode’  a try (1). What could it hurt?. After a few nights of doing this technique, I found to my astonishment and relief, that my insomnia was gone.

After I told CS and thanked him, we got to talking and eventually I found that he taught classes in this technique and others. We set up a time that worked for both of us and we met weekly for a long time. After that first class, I was still not entirely convinced but I checked out his web site countingbreaths.com and began incorporating other simple techniques into my day.

Now, a few years later, I drink way less then I did before, quit smoking, working on my weight and climbing out of the deep dark depressive hole that I’ve been in, since I was 15. With the help of this technique, I can deal with people and situations better then I have, in the past, as well as have some peace of mind. For the first time in a long time, I can look forward to today instead of dreading it.”

Update Aug 2016: Ryan got off the Antidepressant medication totally, per the advice of his primary care doctor. My primary goal in working with him has come true.

* “I stopped smoking” said a cashier

I print the hand outs at the local UPS store. The cashier with whom I was meeting often, became friendly. I found him several times outside the store, smoking a  cigarette. He was always looking gloomy. One day I gave him the hand outs (1) and explained the tip mode (3), in a couple of minutes. Whenever I visited the store for printing, I asked him whether he tried the technique and on hearing his negative response, softly urged him to give it a try. For almost a year, he did not believe it was useful and did not try the technique.

Two months back, he said he was practicing the technique in the visualizing mode (2). He was happy with the practice.

In response to my query today, on how his practice was going and how it was helping him, he said with a smile
“It gives me good sleep”. And after a while, he added “I stopped smoking.”

I congratulated him and asked for the details. He said he was smoking 2 to 3 packs a week, before practicing the technique. While continuing the breathing practice, he switched to electronic cigarettes. Now he rarely feels the urge. Even when he gets the urge, he feels too lazy to smoke.

* I lost 30 pounds in last 9 months and gained many other benefits

Feedback from one of my clients who attended 16 of my classes over last one year.

” I have been seeing C.S.(Suryanarayana Chennapragada) for all my health problems, since last one year. So far, I have seen the benefits such as:

  • I lost 30lbs. since last September (in nine months).
  • I have been eating a lot more healthy food than ever before, with a no red meat, a lot of fruits and vegetables.
  • My self-esteem has gotten much better and my marriage benefited from the counseling C.S. has given me.
  • I suffer from mixed connective tissue disease (Lupus) due to which I have a lot of problems when the weather changes. Due the diet changes I have made, I seem to have less pain in my muscles than I did before, on rainy days.
  • Practicing the breathing technique has enabled me to calm myself down whenever I get stressed out. I deal with problems better now than before.

I started seeing C.S. originally to quit smoking but had to tackle all these problems first before I could take on that problem. I plan to also try and quit smoking in the next year as one of my goals with C.S.

I would recommend counseling with C.S., to anyone, with weight, stress or health problems.”
