Acute pain, specially when it is anticipated, may lead to acute anxiety and panic and mostly to exaggerated perception of pain. The mind locks into the unpleasant experience before and after its occurrence and aggravates it. Any technique that can effectively unhook the mind from that stressful mental state, can normalize the pain.
