* Feeling more concentration …

Feedback from a young Software Engineer who attended my seminar at the ‘Hope Club’, along with three other professionals, on Jan 26, 2012 (1).

“I would like to share my experience after I attended the seminar  on  ”Focusing on breathing” yesterday. I came to know about these techniques a week back through my close friend. I got the website information also. I did practice the technique on my own to get rid of the stress and continuous thoughts in my mind. These were making me sleepless for the past two weeks. When I attended the program yesterday and practiced in your presence, all my doubts were cleared. I felt more relaxed in my mind. I practiced the technique same night when I wanted to sleep and slept nicely. I practiced this morning  before starting for work. Now I am feeling more concentration than before. I want to continue this practice for better living. Thank you very much for your valuable guidance and providing the hand outs.”

* Boy practicing at doctor’s office

Yesterday I went to the “Hope club’ of the American Cancer Society to offer a seminar. I asked Alana Streifert, the coordinator for the children’s programs at the club whether the children who were introduced to the technique by me at the club, were using it. She happily replied -

“Yes. They do. Recently I got a call from a mom to ask what was the breathing technique her son learned at the club. When the mom was at the doctor’s office she found her son touching his fingers and doing some breathing. She asked him what he was doing and he explained it to her. So she was curious to know about the technique from me. ” This is a case of the son teaching the technique to his mom!

Alana also said one of the parents who learned the technique was teaching the technique to other children.

This is one more proof that children will benefit from this technique, as it is simple, easy to remember and use  and seems to help them calm themselves on their own, with no prompt from the parents. Does it not make sense to teach this technique to every child, like we teach A.B, C, D and 1, 2, 3?

* Only doing works, not just knowing

I learned this lesson from a funny experience in our kitchen area.

The trash can has been in the laundry room which is adjacent to the kitchen for many years. All our family members must have made thousands of trips to it by now. Sometime back, we had to temporarily relocate the trash can a few feet away , by the side of the kitchen island. This was to create space around the washer for opening it and replace some parts. Getting the parts and replacing them took about 10 days. We had been seeing the trash can in its new location, several times during the day. During this period , I learned the lesson that we can’t do the right thing, just by knowing what is to be done and how. Knowing is simply not enough. You won’t believe it unless you experience something like this. Read on …

After the trash can was moved, every time we had to drop something in it, we quickly walked to its original location, only to find it missing there, recollect its new location and walk to the new location. After this happened a few times on the first day, I cursed myself for forgetting the fact of its new location, even though I saw it in the new location several times while walking in the kitchen area. I thought my brain would guide my feet to the correct location, at least from the second day. But no! Not only the second day, but for several more days, I continued walking to the  original location, cursed myself and walked over to the new location. The first few times, it was a funny experience. Then it was very frustrating and irritating. After a few days, I gave up all my negative thinking. I realized that an action repeated thousands of times, can’t be changed just by knowing the revised action intellectually. The intellect, with all its knowledge about the new location of the trash can, could not make my feet walk to its new location. It was incapable of redirecting my feet.

My stupid action of walking to the wrong location of the trash can corrected itself, after about 7 days. I would still walk towards the old location, half way through suddenly realize that it is at a different location and redirect my feet. I was happy for this huge improvement. Before my habit corrected itself 100%, the washer repair was done and the trash can went back to its good old location.  Not surprisingly, I quickly went back to the long established habit of walking to the old location. I might have walked to the new location only a few times. I was sort of relieved and happy to get into the old groove.

Now I fully sympathize with any one trying to change an old habit. If walking to the trash can can be so difficult to change, it is no wonder people find it so difficult to give up addiction to overeating, smoking, alcohol and angry outbursts and such habits, even after realizing their negative consequences.

* This meditation has saved my life …

Feedback from a man in New Jersey whose wife is undergoing a great disturbance due to change in the dosage of medication for her Bi-polar problem (1). They have a 7 year old daughter. He was under great stress due to this situation.

” Your meditation technique has saved my life. It has helped me survive the crisis I have been going through.”

He explained that he was practicing the technique at night and other times, due to which he was able to withstand the severe stress.

(1) Husband and wife living are living in New Jersey. The husband found this web site when he searched on the internet for a solution to his unbearable stress. He contacted me by phone from the contact information in the web site. To start with, I am guiding him with phone support while he is practicing based on the documents in this web site. Once he gains confidence in the practices, hopefully he can train his wife.

* My family life has changed dramatically

Feedback from a woman who attended my classes with several mind, body problems.

“Since I have started ‘focusing on breathing’ practices with C.S (Suryanarayana Chennapragada) in October 2011, my family life has changed dramatically.  My daughter and I now talk on a daily basis without yelling at one another. My husband has calmed down his attitude around me. They both say it is because of the person I have become.  I am much more relaxed now and take things as they come, instead of  worrying about things.

My back pain has gone away.  I am now exercising and get energy from doing it on a daily basis.  I have even signed up for a nutritional class and a Zumba class.

I am sleeping much better than I use to, without taking sleeping pills.   I also have started to eat healthier than I was before.   Basically I am a much calmer person with more energy, in the last four months, thanks to C.S. He has also given me good counseling advice better than any counselor I have ever seen in the past.   I would refer anyone to C.S. to help them with many factors in life. He is a very smart and caring man.”

* Helpful in turning off my brain from worrisome thoughts

Feedback from a participant in my seminar at the East Greenbush Library:

“I’ve found the method to be very helpful on nights that I can’t seem to “turn off” my brain (worrisome thoughts, planning, mental “to do” lists, etc).”
